This is an excellent chance to join the Design Engineering organization, specifically within the Graphics and Packaging department. Our team, which consists of various engineering disciplines, collaborates both internally with Dyson's cross-functional teams and externally with suppliers. Together, we work on design, prototyping, testing, and validations essential for the development process.
About the role
As a Senior Manufacturing Technician, you will oversee the packaging prototyping laboratory within the Graphics and Packaging department, supporting operations, design, and development processes as needed. You will be responsible for operating lab tools and equipment, creating guidelines, performing maintenance, ensuring safety, and organizing space or sample rigs. This role requires you to be the primary point of contact for all Packaging Prototyping lab activities and schedules, collaborating with both internal and external functions.
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
Lab Ownership and Safety: Act as the lab owner, responsible for maintaining and organizing material workflows to ensure a safe working environment.
Tool and Equipment Operation: Demonstrate proficiency in using and operating all lab tools and equipment, with a particular focus on cutting equipment.
Prototype Cutting: Perform the cutting of prototype samples as required by Packaging Engineers, managing priorities, and ensuring the readiness of raw materials.
Maintenance Scheduling: Organize and schedule regular repair and maintenance activities with OEMs and third-party suppliers.
Inventory Management: Ensure that cutting tools and recommended maintenance parts are available and ordered on time including raw materials.
Guidelines and Procedures: Create, regularly review, and update guidelines and procedures relevant to lab use, ensuring compliance with safety standards in collaboration with the EHS team.
Support for Print and Packaging: Proactively assist in the approval process for print and packaging parts, supporting sustaining and lifecycle activities while adhering to graphics and packaging requirements.
Requirements
A degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field.
Practical experience with packaging lab tools and equipment, such as cutting tables; familiarity with Zund or Kongsberg is a plus.
Knowledge in the Print and Engineering is an advantage.
Basic understanding of test methodologies for print and packaging structures.
Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve technical issues with equipment, supported by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
Ability to generate technical reports relevant to laboratory operations.
Excellent written and spoken English skills for effective communication with clients and team members.
Detail-oriented, proactive, and self-motivated.
